Our History
When Giacinto DiGregorio left his family farm in Italy for the United States, he brought his knowledge of plants and fresh produce with him. He worked on his godfather's farm for two years and in 1923, rented five acres of land in Brooklyn, New York. He sold his produce at the Washington Street Market in New York City. He married Esther in 1938 and had two children.
In 1950, Giacinto had saved enough money to purchase his own farm in Cheesequake, New Jersey where he would work for the next 15 years. After selling the farm in 1965, he bought the ideal piece of farmland in Howell which was fed by two ponds and the Manasquan River giving access to a farm's most vital necessity, water. These two ponds are what gave the farm it’s name. Eventually their son, Angelo, would take over the farm after the passing of his father, Giacinto.
The farm stand on Route 524 was opened in 1986 and served a rapidly growing community with fresh produce and flowers. The stand has expanded to include a greenhouse to accommodate a larger variety of bedding plants as well as a corn maze and hayrides in the fall.
Together with his wife and three sons, Angelo purchased property on Route 9 in Howell which would become the site of the garden center that stands there today. The chicken farm that was on the property at the time it was purchased was torn down to make way for the building, nursery yard and greenhouses. Twin Pond Farm Garden Center opened for business in 1995. Over the years, the garden center has grown to provide a larger selection of shrubs, trees and bedding plants for our customers to choose from.
Several years later, the store would begin to sell pond and water gardening products. We are proud to say that Twin Pond Farm Garden Center was voted Best of the Best Koi Pond and Water Gardening Centers in Monmouth County 2011 by the Asbury Park Press Reader’s Choice after being voted One of the Best in 2009.
We were able to expand again in 2006 to include the property next door. This property became Twin Pond Farm Country Market. It has been a wonderful continuation of our business to be able to use our own home-grown produce when it’s available to bring you a variety of delicious, freshly prepared foods.
The dedication, integrity and hard work of previous generations have brought us to where we are today. Our hope for the future is to continue that legacy to grow our family’s business and provide our customers with high quality products at the lowest price possible.
